General Rules:
1. The officers of the U.T.T.P.I. reserve the right to interpret
any and all rules set forth herein or any other
rules that are in force in any U.T.T.P.I.
pull as they see fit.
The President has the final decision
in all matters.
2. Trucks and drivers must be weighed in and teched in 1
hour prior to the start of each and every pull. No changing
of drivers after weigh in.
3. A vehicle that is teched and does not meet rules or reg-
ulations will be given one warning. If problem
is not
fixed by the NEXT pull, disqualification will occur.
4. No open alcoholic beverages in the pit or arena at any
time.
Any driver or pit crew suspected or caught
drinking in the
pits will cause disqualification of the pulling
vehicle.
5. A valid state driver's license is required. Any contestant
without a vaild driver's license must have prior
approval
by the UTTPI Board of Officers and our insurance
carrier.
6. Safety helmets, minimum Snell 75, and safety belts are
mandatory.
7. No passengers. No riders shall be allowed in a pulling
vehicle when it is being towed or driven. No rider
in or on
any vehicle in pit, track, or adjacent areas.
8. Someone must be in/on the vehicle at ALL times when
the motor is being run.
9. All decisions of the head track official and 2 board
members are final.
10. All track conditions are the decision of the officials.
11. Any vehicle will only compete one time per class, except
in the event of a pull-off situtation.
12. Any pull, maximum on 75 ft., unless otherwise specified,
will have a repull option, but
must be decided on then,
and taken in that class.
13. The first puller in each class has a repull option, but it
must be taken in that class.
14. All trucks are subject to be reweighed immediately after
their pull at the descretion of the
head track official.
15. Any added weight must be secured and any loss of
ballast on the track is subject to disqualification.
16. No part of pulling vehicle shall interfere with the sled
or sled hitch during a pull.
17. No fuel tanks, fuel lines, radiators, or water hoses are
allowed in the drivers compartment.
18. No battery is allowed in the cab unless securely fastened
to the frame and enclosed in a marine battery
box.
19. Fuel tanks must be securely mounted and fasted to the
pulling vehicle.
20. Maximum weight for each class includes the driver of that
vehicle.
21. Class will be called once for line-up. Truck will be called a
second time, if not in line after second call, truck
will be
disqualified.
22. Puller has 3 minutes to hook to the sled after track is
ready or if after competition director calls
them to the
sled. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
23. Each vehicle pulls in one class only.
24. Exhibition pullers must be discussed prior to the end of
tech-in and must pay a $30.00 hook fee
at the discretion
of the officials.
25. Sled must move at least 25 feet to have sled repositoned.
Only one repositioning is allowed.
26. The first puller is each class will have the option to repull
if not satified with the first
pull. The repull must be taken
immediately or at the end of the class.
27. For mechanical reasons only, a puller may drop to last
position in the class. This is allowed
by the head track
official's discretion. Failure of safety
equipment does not
classify as a mechanical failure.
28. Driver and two pit crew will be given pit passes at the
time of weigh in. The pit crew must be
off the track and
behind the safety lines after hook has been
made.
29. Tie breakers: When there is a tie for points, a pull off will
determine the points champion.
30. A puller that attends an event with a pulling vehicle but is
deemed unable to hook to sled under power, will
receive
last place money and NO points for that
event.
Modified General Rules
1. SFI approved fireproof gloves are mandatory.
2. Fireproof headsocks and a full face helmets are mandatory
for all open bodied vehicles. Fireproof driving boots
are
recommended for all open bodied vehicles.
3. All drivers must wear a minimum SFI 3.2 Spec approved
fire suit.
4. No fuel primer bottles shall be carried on any vehicles
while competing in a contest.
5. No dual wheels, chains or tire studs are acceptable.
6. All tires must have rubber compound contact between the
tire and the ground surface.
7. No tire repairs such as boot sections, vulcanized spots,
etc. Tires will not be acceptable if ground through first
ply
of cords.
8. No clevis, chains. or cable is allowed in the hitching device.
9. Hitch point must be visble for sled hookup. Trucks may
compete without tailgate or rear door for greater hookup
visibility.
10. All pulling vehicles must be equipped with a starter
interrupter switch on the gear shift which will
allow starter
engagement only in the neutral gear shift position or
parked position on an automatic transmission.
11. All pulling vehicles using an automatic transmission must
be equipped with a positive reverse gear lockout.
12. On two wheel drive and four wheel drive trucks, a kill
switch with a 2 inch diameter ring must be located
in the
rear-center of the truck ( maximum 6 inches off center
in
any direction), and no more than 24 inches above the
point of hook. Cable from sled will attach to kill switch.
13. Trucks must have a presentable bed or flatbed.
14. A neutral safety switch system is required on all pulling
vehicles. A white light, automotive quality,
minimum 2
inches in diameter, must be mounted
directly above
or below safety kill switch at the rear of
the vehicle. A
light in the driver's compartment must be
operated off the
same system. Both lights are to
be activated by the shift
lever so the lights wil be lit ONLY when the
vehicle is
in neutral.
15. The point of hook on trucks and big tractors must have
a minumum 3 inch hole for ease of hookup.
Mini rods
must have a minimun 3 inch hole.
16. All pulling vehicles must have an automatic ignition
kill switch on spark ignition engines
and an air shut off
on diesel engines. Kill switch must
also shut off electric
fuel pump. These controls must
be operated for the
drivers seat and from the rear of the
truck.
17. All fuel injected engines must have a fuel shut off valve
control within easy reach of the driver.
18. All exhaust must discharge vertically. Height to be a
minimum of one foot above the
bend in the pipe which
discharges verticially measured
from top of the pipe
to the bottom of the bend. All
exhaust pipes must be
securely attatched. Vertical
is defined as " being in
plumb" with a 10 degree
varience in any direction
permitted. Venturi type headers
are acceptable.
19. All engine driven fans must have a shroud , 360 degrees
around the fan. A shroud can be
no more that 1 inch
from the radiator and no less than 1/4
inch past the back
edge of the fan blades.
20. All injection or butterfly shafts on engines must have
dual return-to-idle arms and springs;
one on each end of
the shaft.
21. All vehickes which run automotive engines are limited to
650 cubic inches total displacement.
22. A deflection sheild is required on both sides of the
engine. A shield must extend the
complete length
of the block casting and
be securly fastened.
The shield must be
made of aluminum or steel,
minimum of 0.060" thick.
23. Starter motors, fuel injection pumps, and exhaust
headers may not be used
as shielding. Shielding may
cover/pass behind starter
or fuel pump.
24. Shielding on all V or Y type engines must extend from
the base of the head or
the uppermost point of the
piston travel to 2 inches
below the bottom center of
the crankshaft throw and
be securely fastened.
25. Shields must be solid. Motor mounts, filters, steering
rods, etc. cannot serve
as part of the shield. Solid frame
rails with
no holes can serve as part of all of the shield,
provided it covers the required
area of the clock casting.
26. Automatic transmissions MUST be covered by an
SFI 4.1 approved or
better, full length safety blanket.
27. Pulling vehicle must be equipped with a
minimum 2 1/2
pound, dry power type
fire extinguisher, fully charged,
with a guage in working
condition and within easy
reach of the driver.
28. General rules apply.
RAIN
1. Any class not completed for any reason will be
considered a rain out.
2. A class will be official when 2/3 of the
pullers have
made a pull.
3. A session of pulling will be official when 1/2
of the
advertised classes are completed.
4. If purse is not paid toa cancelled class, entry
fee will
be refunded.
5. UTTPI officers will decide when class is
rained out of
a session.
PULL-OFFS
1. Each competitor will have two (2)
attempts to make a
measurable pull.
2. In a pull-off, each puller will hook in
the order that
they pulled in the original
class. NO dropping of
positions is allowed in
a pull-off.
3. If the track officials feel that there has been
an error in
sled setting, pull-off may
be restarted. In this case, the
first puller may come right
back or drop to last.
4. In a pull-off, a floating line finish will be
used.
Summary of Causes for Disqualification
All
disqualifications are not limited to these causes:
1. Illegal fuel.
2. Out of bounds. Out of bounds is defined
as any part of
the pulling
vehicle touching the boundary line.
3. Loss of excessive liquid. Excessive liquid
is defined
as loss of excessive
oil or fuel, except due to breakage.
4. Loss of weight under the green flag.
5. Loss or failure of safety equipment under
green flag.
6. Unsafe operation of vehicle.
7. Unprofessional or unsportsman like conduct.
8. Intoxication of driver or crewmen.
9. Illegal equipment.
10. Leaving starting line under red flag.
11. Jerking of the sled under green flag.
12. Excessive argument with track officals.
13. Deliberate delay of event.
14. Being too close to the track.
15. Attacking an official.
Protest Clause
Any contestant who feels that another contestant's
vehicle in his class is illegal, may protest that vehicle
to
the head track official, wutha $500.00 deposit. Protests
must be made before the next class begins. If illegal,
the protestor would get deposit refunded. If found
illegal, cibtestabt will be disqualified from participating
in
UTTPI events for one year fromthe date of that event.
Driver is responsible for tear down of his/her motor in the
presence of the head track official and one board member
within 24 hours of protest.
Stock
Gas Rules
1. Weight classes will be 6000 lbs and 7000 lbs.
2. Factory stock appearance must be retained. Must be street
legal.
3. DOT approved tires only. No bar tires or cut tires.
4. No suspension limiting devices permitted.
5. No ball hitches allowed.
6. Hitch height in lmaximum 26 inches.
7. Naturally aspirated only. Gasoline or propane are the only
acceptable fuels.
8. Hanging weights are allowed but cannot extend more
than 60 inches from centerline of front axle. No
loose
weights in cab or under hood allowed.
9. Seat belts and helmets are required.
Stock Diesel
1. Weight limit is 8000 lbs.
2. The engine is limited to a stock appearing, OEM make-
specific compression ignition engine.
3. Intake, exhaust, and fuel enhancing modifications are
allowed. It is recommended to have either two 7/16" dia.
bolts placedthrough the pipe perpendicular to each other,
or a screen of the exact pipe diameter placed in the pipe(s)
somewhere after the turbocharger. It is recommended that
the exhaust exit either straight up or straight down.
4. Fuel must be pump #1/#2 diesel only. Soy/Biodiesel
fuel is permitted.
5. Fuel injection pump is limited to a stock appearing, OEM
engine model specific pump only. The use of multiple
high-pressure common-rail fuel pumps is prohibited.
6. Nitrous Oxide, Propane, Water/ Methanol is prohibited.
All system components must be removed from the truck
or bottles removed and lines capped ater the solenoids.
7. Limited to 1 turbocharger that must be stock, OEM make-
specific charger only.
8. The body must be the OEM truck body, including the full
bed floor. The body must retain full sheet metal. After
market hoods are permitted.
9. Visual modifications are allowed, i.e. lift, tires, wheels, etc.
10. The hitch must be a reciever style hitch attached to the
frame; Reinforcements are permitted. 26" maximum hitch
height. The hooking point wil be measured to the center
of
the clevis loop.
11. D.O.T. street legal tires only. No bar tires or cut tires.
12. No hanging weights extending beyond the vehicle. No
added weights allowed inside the cab.
13. Solid or blocked suspensions are not allowed.
14. A fire extinguisher is recommended and must be securely
mounted within the reach of the driver.
15. General Rules apply.
Super Stock Diesel
1. Weight limit will be 8000 lbs.
2. Must be street legal.
3. Hanging weights are allowed but cannot extend more than
60 inches from centerline of front axle. No loose
weights
in cab or under hood.
4. Engine is restricted to 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder
compression ignition engines. OEM engine required. The
engine block must have been available as a factory option
on 1 ton or smaller pickup trucks.
5. Water injection is allowed. Nitrous oxide, propane, and
alcohol/ methanol are not permitted.
6. Turbochargers are limited to 1 single charger with a
maximum inducer size of 2.8 inches measured at the
smallest diameter area of the compressor wheel.
No
bushing may be used.
7. Fuel must be pump #1/#2 diesel only. Soy/Biodiesel fuel is
permitted.
8. After market transmissions and transfer cases are
allowed.
9. Exhaust must have either two 7/16" bolts placed through
the pipe perpendiculae to each other, or a screen
of the
exact pipe diameter placed in the pipe(s) somewhere
after
the turbocharger. It
is recommended that the exhaust
exit either straight up or straight down.
10. The body must be the OEM truck body, including the full
bed floor. The body must retain full sheet metal.
After
market hoods are permitted.
11. The hitch must be a receiver style hitch attached to the
frame; reinforcements are permitted. Bumpers may
be
notched or removed. 26" maximum hitch height. The
hitching point will be measures to the center of
the clevis
loop.
12. D.O.T. street legal tires only. No bar tires or cut tires.
13. Each vehicle must have at least 6 inch wide u-joint shields
around the rear u-joint constructed of at least
1/4" steel or
3/8" aluminum that will safely contain the u-joint and
the
end of the rear shaft. All shields must be securely
mounted to the vehicle. Any front shaft u-joint that is
visible from the side of the vehicle must be shielded
in the
same manner.
14. A fire extinguesher isn working condition is required to
be within easy reach of the driver.
15. General Rules apply.
Modified Diesel
1. Weight limit will be 8000 lbs.
2. Hanging weights is allowed but cnanot extend more than
60 inches from centerline of front axle. No loose
weights
in cab or under hood.
3. Maximum wheelbase is 180 inches.
4. The engine is restricted to 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder
compression ignition engines with a maximum of 460
cubic inches. The engine block must have been available
as a factory option in 1 ton or smaller pickup trucks.
An
SFI raated dampener is recommended.
5. Maximum of 2 turbochargers. Turbos must be completely
enclosed in the engine compartment.
6. Nitrous oxide is prohibited.
7. Propane and water/alcohol/methanol injection is permitted.
Commercially available pump lube allowed.
8. Fuel must be pump #1/#2 diesel only. Soy/Biodiesel fuel is
permitted.
9. All fuel tanks, lines, pumps, valves, etc. must be located
outside of the driver compartment and within the
confines
of the frame and/or steel body. Fuel pressure guage
isolators, with steel-braided line, may be mounted
on the
firewall.
10. Any sealed cooling system is permitted.
11. Exhaust must have either two 7/16" dia. bolts placed
t hrough the pipe perpendicular to each other, or a screen
of the exact pipe diameter placed in the pipe(s)
somewhere after the turbocharger(s).
Exhuast must be
directed away from the
fuel tank and driver and exit
straight up or down.
12. Vehicles must have adwquate stopping power.
13. The hitch must be constructed of solid material that is
properly attached and braced. Bumpers may
be notched
or removed. 26" maximum hitch height. The hitching
point
will be measured to the center of the clevis loop.
14. Any truck body style is permitted, but the body must
retain the full bodied appearance. Doors must
be
functional.
15. The vehicle must be equipped with one seat for the
driver; it must be securely installed.
16. Each vehicle must be equipped with an OEM or minimum
.024 inch thick steel firewall extending from
side to side of
the body and from top of the engine compartment's
seal ( hood, cowl,deck) to the bottom of the
floor and/or
belly pan. All openings must be sealed, excluding
grommets.
17. Each vehicle must be equipped with an OEM or
minimum .024 inch thick steel floor
pan that extends the
full length and
width of the drivers compartment.
18. Each vehicle must have at least 6 inch wide u-joint shields
around the rear u-joint constructed of at
least 1/4 inch
steel or 3/8 inch aluminum that will safely
contain the
u-joint and the end of the rear shaft. All shields
must be
securely mounted to the vehicle. Any front
shaft u-joint
that is visible from
the side of the vehicle must be
shielded in the same manner.
19. Air of fuel Shutoff's is required- consisting of (1)
cable/ switch tot he rear of the truck to be operated by
the sled, and also a cable/switch inside the driver's
compartment.
20. D.O.T. street legal tires only. Cut or pulling tires are
prohibited.
21. Solid or blocked suspensions are allowed.
22. Aftermarket transmissions and transfer cases are
allowed.
23. A clutch meeting SFI spec 1.2 or 1.3 is mandatory for
manual transmissions.
24. A fire extinguisher in working condition is required to be
within easy reach of the driver.
25. General rules apply.
6200 lb Sportsman Class
1. 4 wheel drive only.
2. Factory stock appearance must be retained.
3. Weight class is 6200 lbs.
4. Hitch height is 26 inches maximum.
5. Drive shaft loops required for all open bed vehicles
6. Drive shaft loops to completely cover U-joints at both
ends of all srive shafts with one loop in
the center if shaft
is longer than 3 feet.
7. No ball hitches.
8. Gasoline and peopane are the only acceptable fuels. (No
nitrous oxide allowed.)
9. Naturally aspirated only.
10. Windshields must remain as factory intended.
11. Weight bar permitted on front of vehicle. Maximum
length is 60 inches from centerline
of front axle to the
farthermost point.
12. From the point of hook to the centerline of the rear axle
shall be no less than 36% of the pickup
or van
wheelbase.
13. DOT approved tires only.
14. Kill switch required.
15. All drivers must wear a minimum SFI 3.2 Spec. approved
fire suit and SFI approved fire gloves.
16. General rules apply.
Superstock 4 Wheel Drive
1. Engine is limited to 650 cubic inches, must have a cast
iron block and may have either cast
iron or aluminum
heads. Heads must be factory produced of original
type
configuration with 2 valves per cylinder in
the original
engine compartment.
2. Any single four barrel carburetor with any intake
manifold.
3. The wight class for super stock 4 wheel drive trucks is
6200 lbs.
4. Tire size may run no larger that 112" circumference, any
tires are acceptable. No more
than 18" tread width.
5. Refer to the modified 4 wheel drive class section for
additional 4x4 requirements. Chassis, drive line,
hitch,
and other components will be the same as modified
4x4 trucks.
6. Genereal rules apply.
Modified 4 Wheel Drive Trucks
1. Weight limit is 6200 lbs.
2. Modified 4x4 trucks must be factory produced steel pickups
or vans, modified as defined in rule #8 below. They must
have an escape hatch in the roof or in the back if doors are
non working.
3. Modified 4x4 trucks must run naturally apirated, single
automotive type engines. Fuel injection permitted but no
diesel engines allowed. Engine must accept stock
crankshaft. Heads shall be limited to 2 valves per cylinder.
4. Modified 4x4 trucks may run automotive type engine of
gasoline or alcohol. The maximum cubic inches allowed is
650.
5. The rear of the engine block may not be farther forward
than the centerline of the front axle.
6. Planetary axles are allowed.
7. Axles and hub bolt shieldes are required on all rear ends
unless it is a planetary drive rear end. The minimum is
1/16 (0.060) thick steel. The hub bolts should be shielded
on both the front and rear axles. The mounting shield
cannot be mounted to the axle end or the hub bolts. A hole
may be installed in the center of the front shield so the lock
can be operated,so long as the hub end or axle bolts are
covered.
8. The vehicle may run a frame up to a 133 inch wheel base.
Its body may be factore steel. Fiberglass may be used in
body components in lieu of steel provided the appearance
is the same as the factory steel body. Wheel wells, front
and rear, must be centered above
the wheels. The bed of
the pickup truck may be lengthened
or shortened, only
between the cab and the rear wheel wells, so the wheels
are centered in the rear of the bed to make the wells
centered above the wheels.
9. Tube frames will be allowed.
10. One piece fiberglass bodies will be allowed. Fiberglass
bodies must be an exact replica of the original sheet
metal.
No car bodies allowed.
11. All weights must be safely secured to the vehicles and may
not extend forward more than 60 inches fron the center line
of the front axle. No loose weights in the cab or under the
hood are allowed.
12. If the vehicle has doors, they must be on and closed.
13. Glass windshields, rear windows, and side windows can be
factory tinted or clear glass. Stained glass in not allowed.
If
plexiglass is used, it must be clear in all windows.
14. The vehicle must run with a full hood except for exhaust
and fuel systems.
15. The exhaust must exit straight up. Refer to general rules
section for additional exhaust requirements.
16. All trucks must have working front wheel brakes. This
does not include drive shaft brakes. Drive shaft brakes, if
present, must be shielded 360 degrees by 5/16" steel or 3/8
inch aluminum, both ends enclosed with 1/8" steel. The
floor of the body may be part of the shield if it is 1/8" steel
or better.
17. No mud flaps or dirt deflectors are permitted.
18. All vehicles must utilize a grill and it must be in the original
position.
19. No holes in the firewall and floor board are permitted.
20. No fuel tanks are permitted in the cab. Fuel pressure
gauges, fuel pumps, and fuel lines inside
the cab are also
prohibited.
21. Vertical bumpers are required to prevent the vehicle from
passing over the buckboard of the sled while backing up
to hook and unhook. Bumpers to extend a minimum of 8
inches vertically. Bumpers must be of rigid construction.
22. All trucks must have three(3) round metal loops shielding
on each drive shaft. (A two piece drive shaft must
have six
(6) metal loops.) A 360 degree loop must be
a minimum of
3/8" wide or wider, and not more that 2 inches from the
shaft in any direction. End loops must be placed no farther
than 6 inches for universal joints, with a third loop
in the
center of the shaft, or it can be a solid tube (5/16"
steel or
3/8" aluminum) meeting the above requirements. No cast
metal is permissible.
23. All trucks will have a 360 degree metal shield around the
universal joints, 5/16: steel or 3/8" aluminum. Minimum
width to be 6 inches. Clearance should not exceed
2
inches between shield and universal
joint. Shield should
not be butt or seam welded.
24. From the point of hook to the centerline of the rear axle
shall be no less that 36% of the pickup or van wheelbase.
25. If the pickup cannot run a 36% hitch because the bed is
too long, the bed may be cut to the 36% hitch length. The
hitch must be clear and visible for hookup purposes.
26. The hitch must be rigid in all directions and solidly
mounted to the frame.
27. No devices or istallations that will raise the hitch while
pulling are permitted. This will be cause for
disqualification.
28. The hitch height cannot exceed 26" before, during, or after
the pull.
29. Hitch point must be visible and clear for sled hookup.
30. The pulling point can be no less that 1 1/2" for the back
edge of the hook point.
31. Tires have maximum 18" wide tread, and 34" tall. Pulling
tires only.
32. General rules apply.
Modified
and Super Modified Two Wheel Drives
1. Weight limit is 6200 lbs.
2. All two wheel drive vehicles shall have a single,eight(8)
cylinder automotive type engine. Engine
must accept
a stock auromotive crankshaft. Heads shall be
limited to
two(2) valves per cylinder.
3. If the orginal vehicle has doors, they must be on and
closed. Funny car type bodies may be used with
an
escape hatch in the roof or back if doors are non
working.
All two wheel drive vehicles must have a complete
firewall with no holes in it.
4. Glass windshields, rear windows, and side windows can
be factory tinted glass or clear glass. Stained
glass is not
allowed. If plexiglass is used it must be
clear in all
windows.
5. A vehicle must run with its hood on. Vehicles with open
cockpits such as roadsters, C-cabs, and T-buckets
are
not required to run a hood.
6. Any factory production steel body truck, van, or car body
may be used. Fibergalss may be used in
body
components in lieu of steel provided the appearance
is
the same as the factory steel body. All funny
car
fiberglass bodies are acceptable. Only
factory type
bodies or replicas thereof shall be permitted. No rails
allowed.
7. Weights cannot extend further back than 12 inches from
the hitching point.
8. All vehicles must have axle covers on the rear wheels,
except vehicles with planetary type rear ends.
9. The maximum length of vehicle is to be 15 feet from the
centerline rear axle to the forward most portion
of the
vehicle, including weight racks, etc.
The front wheels and
axle are to remain centered in the front wheel
wells.
10. Vertical bumpers are required to prevent the vehicle from
passing over the buckboard of the sled
while backing up
to hook or unhook. Bumpers are to extend a
minimum of
eight (8) inches vertically. Bumpers
can be rigid in
construction.
11. All two wheel drive trucks must have working individual
rear brakes.
12. Modified and super modified two wheeel drive truck tires
are as follows: 18.4" by 16.1". Nothing bigger.
13. All two wheel drive trucks must have wheelie bars.
Wheelie bar length must be a minimum
of 2 inches back
from the furthermost point of tire with a
5 inch pad on the
bottom. Maximum 6 inches high if within tire track,
or 10
inches high if not within tire track.
